Comment 1 stx123 2004-01-27 11:08:19 UTC
Messages to users or mailing lists @openoffice.org or @<project>.openoffice.org
are not delivered.
Comment 2 Unknown 2004-01-27 17:58:35 UTC
This is due to an email worm that hit the OOo server. Ops has been working on
the problem and they believe have resolved the issue- however the email that has
queued up in the meantime will need to be dequeued to allow the mail traffic to
start flowing again. I don't have an eta at this time but will update this issue
as I am alerted from Ops.
Comment 3 Unknown 2004-01-27 18:20:30 UTC
Qmail's up and working ok, but it'll take a while for the queue to catch up as
the (mail) server deals w/ the load and false-addresses and bounces, etc.
Comment 4 stx123 2004-01-27 18:35:36 UTC
Feel free to "dequeue" bounces and double-bounces.
Comment 5 Unknown 2004-01-28 00:00:07 UTC
per ops:
we've finally turned the corner on this problem and should have mail
delivery restored within the hour, and should be safely rejecting the virus
mails and their bounces.
Comment 6 lsuarezpotts 2004-01-28 01:29:51 UTC
so far, email is not restored. I placed a broadcast message to that effect.

I asked for status from the internal pcn 25658.
We will update this issue tomorrow with further status.

Comment 8 Unknown 2004-01-28 23:15:25 UTC
the last update I had was that the queue of messages is still great and is
effecting performance. Louis has escalated the internal issue.
Comment 9 lsuarezpotts 2004-01-29 01:23:14 UTC
update.
escalation of issue internally and assignment to lead email engineer. No clear notion of when this
will be resolved, but the engineer will be working on it until it is.

Comment 10 stx123 2004-01-29 17:28:41 UTC
adding to top issues.

As discussed earlier I could imagine to block messages to addresses
announce@openoffice.org, postmaster@openoffice.org, mailer-daemon@openoffice.org
for 2 days to decrease mail load.

But please make sure, we can use these addresses again after this amount of time.
Comment 11 lsuarezpotts 2004-01-29 17:35:57 UTC
Stefan,
would you file a new issue requesting the blocking of the addresses you mention?

As to updates:
I updated the PCN with the information that mail to listname@projectname.ooo is hardly getting
through at all.

Comment 12 stx123 2004-01-29 17:55:20 UTC
I filed issue 24918 for address blocking and issue 24914 covers the
list@<project> problem.
Comment 13 Unknown 2004-01-30 23:58:30 UTC
Ops is continuing to monitor the incoming and outgoing mail queue. We'll keep an
eye on this throughout the weekend but expect email delays for a while longer.
I'll update this issue Monday morning.
Comment 14 Unknown 2004-02-12 22:22:57 UTC
Ops is continuing to monitor the incoming and outgoing mail queue and note that
the mail is still under hardship from the extraordinary amount of bogus traffic.
Mail is getting through, but with obvious delays.
Comment 15 Unknown 2004-02-17 21:37:33 UTC
lowering priority of issue to p2 as the email is coming through, albeit slowly
in some cases.
Comment 16 Unknown 2004-02-26 18:39:38 UTC
closing resolved per above commentary
Comment 17 Unknown 2004-08-31 19:34:24 UTC
Closing this issue.
