Description stx123 2004-01-29 17:49:18 UTC
As requested in issue 24851 I file a new issue about the idea to block addresses.

As discussed earlier I could imagine to block messages to addresses
announce@openoffice.org, postmaster@openoffice.org, mailer-daemon@openoffice.org
for 2 days to decrease mail load.

But please make sure, we can use these addresses again after this amount of time.

Btw, we confirmed this request already for account names
(bob|john|stan|serg|james|claudia|debby|maria|brian|michael|matt|alex|smith|ray|sam|tom|joe|jimmy|dave|robert|brent|peter|sandra|bill|helen|alice|ja
ck|david|steve|julie)@openoffice.org
in an issue at extranet.

This information has already been filed on our internal issue tracking system
and is a duplicate of #7.
Comment 2 stx123 2004-01-29 18:07:12 UTC
The addresses
announce@openoffice.org, postmaster@openoffice.org, mailer-daemon@openoffice.org
are not mentioned in #7.
I would consider #7 (servlets are not working as fixed).
Comment 3 stx123 2004-01-29 18:28:40 UTC
Another idea is to drop messages from non-subscribers to mailing lists - no
moderation, no bounce => no traffic.

Comment 5 stx123 2004-02-03 18:22:41 UTC
Have the suggestions been taken into consideration?
Comment 6 Unknown 2004-02-03 18:31:17 UTC
ops has been monitoring these addresses and the mail flow overall. blocking
these addresses would have no substantial impact.
Comment 7 stx123 2004-02-03 18:34:20 UTC
Are there any other specific addresses we can have a look at?
Comment 8 Unknown 2004-02-03 18:54:03 UTC
As Louis indicated in the other email issue, Ops has been monitoring the flow of
email and is providing data on the situation. Mail is getting through and we
have no recommendations at this time on changing or blocking various addresses.

closing per last statement:
"Ops has been monitoring the flow of email and is providing data on the
situation. Mail is getting through and we have no recommendations at this time
on changing or blocking various addresses."

Closing as general email probs related to the recent worm problems are being
addressed in other issues.
