Description dawerbuch 2004-02-18 02:36:11 UTC
I have an Office 2K Word Doc that contains a table with formulas. I open
this .doc file using OOo WordProcesser. I hover the cursor over a calculated
value, but there is no help balloon displayed that should display the formula.
F2 in the cell opens the formula editor with an empty formula.

MRU->BH: Word has formula fields (e.g. "=a+b") where it uses reference fields as
operands (because Word does not have Variables). Writer's formula fields must be
extended to calculate with reference fields if the import should do something
meaningful.

There are a number of issues involving importing a Word document with a table.

1. The imported table displays with lite-grey lines and borders, not the same
black lines used in a newly created table.
2. The formulas in the table that reference cells within the table are lost,
and only the textual data is retained. I do not know about formulas that
reference variables, as I do not use them.

please do not change the fields of an issue once set by a developer. Otherwise
handling of the issue just will take more time than necessary.

The other items have to be ignored one problem -> one issue
but regarding 1) The light grey lines are only "helper lines", not actual
borders (right click on a table and uncheck "table limits" -> you won't see the
lines any more), like the ones that show you the page-area and the footer/header.

regarding 2) OOo uses variables, Word doesn't - this is about the internal
handling of the formulas. OOo has to learn to "understand" Word's way of
handling formulas. For this OOo has to be enhanced -> set type back to enhancement.

The issue with tables in Word documents has been outstanding since day one and
if a commonly used part of Word.

Marking this an enhancement not a bug doesn't do it justice as this just
doesn't work period!

Also the fact that the original bug request is so old and there has been no
target milestone set disturbs me greatly that this is being swept under the
carpet when this is BASE fucntionality of Word and should be a top priority.

This bug has been outstanding nearly 3 years, any chance it could be fixed please?

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

I would very much appreciate having this issue solved. We use still sometimes Word2000 in paralllel to OO 3.2 writer to read .doc files - and then all table formulas are lost.
