Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25772
Find & Repace - Replacement of capitals
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
I use Find & Repace to edit German text, replacing ae, ue and oe with ä, ü, etc This works fine, but when a capitalised word starts with Oe, Ae or Ue, it gets found and relaced with ä, ü, etc rather than Ö, etc (This would be easier to read (and write) if I could produce all the umlauted characters, but some of them, eg Alt-1-4-8, throw me off the page !)

Many for the valuable feedback (via private email) : ... " It is still wrong in 2.4.0 ! Let me explain the error again. When my wife or I writes a letter in German, using a UK keyboard, we have to use oe for ö, ae for ä, etc. For some correspondents, that's fine, but fussy old devils will expect to see the proper German characters, so I do a Find & Replace. This works fine for all the lower case instances, but if the first word of a sentence begins Ae..., it gets replaced by ä, rather than by Ä. I would accept this as something I shouldn't expect - if WordPerfect hadn't done it right about 10 years ago ! " ...
This is a duplicate of: Issue 17188 - Find and Replace doesn't take case of original word in to account. Please feel free to add your comments and vote to i17188. Regards Andrew *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 17188 ***
