Description andreschnabel 2004-03-10 20:37:55 UTC
Default bullet styles seem to use StarSymbol font and bullets from StarSymbol.

This works well withing OOo (even if StarSymbol is not installed), but fails
when copy'n'paste paragraphs to other Applications (such was Word, Wordpad ...).
Foreign applications will try to display Starsymbol and display anything but
bullets.

Issue 19164 seems to be related (i think, this one is the root-cause). If it is
an duplicate, please close this issue as such.

@submitter: pls. try a current snapshot of OO.o and report back whether the
problem still persits or close. Thx.

well, we could run in circles, indeed.

Tested with m104 with following results:
- bullets still seem to use Starsymbol (could not check the real font, but
"StarSymbol" is displayed as font, if I move the cursor to the greyed bullet-area)
- Copy'nd'paste to Word does not work correctly (all bullets of different types
in OOo become dots in Word)
- Export to rtf does not work properly (wht means, issue 19164 is again here)

Note: Export to rtf is ok, if other fonts are used for the bullets. Copy'n'Paste
still does'nt work

Andre, thanks for the update.

#1
> - bullets still seem to use Starsymbol
bullets request StarSymbol which falls back to OpenSymbol for the
display/Printer device and PDF-Export inside vcl module. Writer doesn't know
about this GlyphFallback and relies on the font StarSymbol which is wrong for
OO.o in most cases. Even in the content.xml file of an *.odt document Writer
writes "StarSymbol" although it is actually "OpenSymbol".

#2
> - Copy'nd'paste to Word does not work correctly
Not sure whether this is a clipboard bug, but presumably also a consequence of #1

#3
> - Export to rtf does not work properly
the rtf filter writes StarSymbol (see again #1) and provides "Arial Unicode MS"
as fallback font. If you don't have "Arial Unicode MS" and the app displaying
the rtf file doesn't provide a sophisticated GlyphFallback mechanism, they fail
to display the bullet.

Bug in Writer: transferring to AMA for dispatching.

Considering the effort, the priority, the risk and our resource planning I've to
retarget this issue to OOo Later.

This issue can be closed.

OOo 3.1.0 and 3.1.1 write default bullet now its content.xml file with good
description:
<style:font-face style:name="OpenSymbol" svg:font-family="OpenSymbol"/>
Comment 7 andreschnabel 2009-11-06 21:25:13 UTC
thanks for the info - default list styles and bullets now use OpenSymbol.

(verified in 3.1.1 and 3.2m2)
