Description ftack 2004-04-06 21:22:54 UTC
The feature where Outline numbering can be ssigned to custom paragraphs instead
of the build-in Heading styles seems not to work properly.

Steps to reproduce the problem
1) Enter one lines of text, create and assign new style "CustomHeading1"
2) Enter a second line, create and assign new style "Customheading2"
3) Apply outline numbering: Tools - Outline numbering - Numbering Tab
3a) Level 1, paragraph style: Customheading1, Number: 1,2,3
3b) Level 2, paragraph style: Customheading2, Number: 1,2,3
OK

Number of Customheading1 shows up, that of Customheading2 doesn't. Yet, in Tools
- Outline numbering, Level 2 remains defined to be applied to Customheading2 and
the preview shows the numbering.

Can confirm this. This must be fixed for OO 1.1.3.
Comment 2 Regina Henschel 2004-06-01 15:44:20 UTC
You can get a correct numbering, when you first apply the default heading styles
and switch numbering on and then apply your custom styles. At first glance this
seems to be a workaround. But when you save the document and reload it, then the
error occurs again. See the attached file with pictures.

Through discussions with members of users@de.openoffice.org I made some
observations:
In the documents generated by OOo1.1.1 on the default template there is in
“settings.xml†the line
<config:config-item config:name="UseOldNumbering"
config:type="boolean">false</config:config-item>
If you set the value from 'false' to 'true', then the numbering is shown correctly.
You get the same effect, when you open and save the document with StarOffice6.0.
Then this line will be removed totally. (OOo1.0 might also work, but I haven't
got it anymore.) If you then open the document with OOo1.1.1, the line will be
added with value 'true', so that further on there are no problems with outline
numbering.
I am no developer, but I guess, that there will be a 'NewNumbering', but it is
buggy up to now or not finished yet. So it could be a workaround till it is put
right, to change the default template so that it uses the value 'true' for the
parameter 'UseOldNumbering'.

scheduled to 1.1.4.

SBA: Note: Issue 30310 is a clone of this one in order to get the fix for OOo
2.0 too. I just verified issue 30310 in CWS swqbugfixes03. So that fix will
probably be integrated in build 680m46 or 680m47.

This is great news but shouldn't the workaround be published so that those of us
stuck with this problem can overcome it? If the developer could come up with a
simple writeup that works for all distros of OOo I will make it a point to put
this in the FAQs.

The version currently available for public download does not have the bugfix
included yet. So as a workaround I suggest to save your files in Word XP
format, because the outline numbering will persist even after save/close and reopen.

That's right, currently you can only download 1.1.3. Fix will be in soon
available 1.1.4.
Comment 24 maschke 2005-01-19 10:21:20 UTC
I am using 1.1.4 and the bug is not fixed. I am working under Windows 2000.
I think 'fixed' and 'closed' should be removed again. The bug is very annoying -
 every single day.
