Description behnel 2004-04-21 10:53:11 UTC
It is generally a good idea to keep mouse ways short.

Since menu panels open to the right side of the menu button, the way from the
menu button to the sub menus can be relatively long. A special issue is "file"
-> "new" as mentioned in issue 28178 where the mouse moves a long way aside the
other menu buttons and is very likely to accidently leave the panel and open
other menus thus braking the user's work flow.

A possible enhancement could be to add a second sub menu arrow to the left side
of the menu panel (just as the one on the right side). This (preferably
optional) feature would shorten the way to sub menus considerably.

A second solution would be to support tear-off menus, i.e. to place menu panels
within reach of the current work position.

I've noticed this and it IS irritating to have to click in the document then
re-click on the next menu item because the first is hiding it (sometimes several
menu items are hidden). I have no solution to propose as I recall it was also a
problem with earlier versions of Word. (I have no idea if Word has done
something to fix it.)
