Description etiffany 2004-06-04 14:21:51 UTC
Setup: Two data sources in Data Source Administrator (DSA), the builtin Bibliography and another ("reg
data") created to access a spreadsheet (an Excel workbook). I am running the Apple Technology
Preview 4 version of OOo 1.1.2 on MacOS 10.3.4, using Apple X11

Action: Open the DSA from either the Tools menu or by right-click on Data Sources pane. Select the
Bibliography source and click on the various tabs in the DSA (no need to make changes). Then select
the "reg data" source. OOo imediately becomes unresponsive. That is, the windows all respond by
raising and lowering (basic X functionality) but the contents does not redraw and the menus and
buttons are not active.

Note that right-clicking in the data sources pane to get to the DSA often immediately results in
unresponsive behavior, without any other manipulations.

FURTHERMORE, once this has occurred, other processes in the OS are unable to fork. For example, I am
unable to start a terminal window, install a package, or restart OOo. Here is a log entry:

2004-06-04 08:40:33.154 Installer[849] *** NSThread: ignoring exception
'NSInternalInconsistencyException' (reason 'couldn't fork') that raised during thread perform of target
0x146260 and selector '_initiateDMConnection'
2004-06-04 08:40:33.223 Installer[849] couldn't fork

The only way to recover is to reboot

Added oooqa keyword.

I haven't tried to reproduce this specific bug, but it is probably a duplicate
of :

Absolutely. Don't know how I missed that in my search. Inexperience, I guess.

Thanks.

OK, will resolve as duplicate then.
