Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 30960
bullet sizing issue
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:22:10 UTC
Type some text into writer; Set the font size to be 72 Hit the 'bullet' button; I _expect_ the bullet to inherit the font size of the rest of the line; - as it does in Office XP, and as is ergonomically sensible ;-) Instead we end up with a tiny bullet suitable for a 12 point font.
Right! The font size attribute should be taken from the hard attributes while formatting as bullet list. (like it does for the character colr, for instance)
target set
Issue replicated on OOo 1.1.4 (Windows XP service pack 2). To insert bigger bullets, go to Format -> Numbering/Bullets -> and pick the second bullet type. (just a temporary fix for now I guess)
Sucessfully replicated on WinXP SP2 OOo 1.1.4 as well as OO 1.0.2 on RedHat 9. The bullet size remained constant no matter what the font size was set to. Comparing to Microsoft Word we see that there, bullet size is porportional to font size when the bullets are instantiated using the bullet button.
The bug was sucessfully replicated on Windows XP and OO 1.0.2 on RedHat 9. The follow-up testing was performed for different types of bullets and the only problem was consistent with small bullets. The other formatting bullets could successfully pass the test. The small bullet size is constant and the user can't change the size of this bullet.
You can easily change bullet-size. Go to Character Style "Bullet", Tab "Font". The standard-button removes the "9pt" entry and the bullet will be in the same size as the paragraph. (see issue 6439 ans issue 15265) But the bullet has a wrong height. I'll write a new issue for that.
Issue sucessfully replicated on Fedora Core 3 OOo 1.1.3.
This problem is still present in version 2.0.3 on Windows XP.
It is also still present in OOo 2.0.4 in Linux Fedora Core 6...
*** Issue 83847 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
Formatting of bullets is still not working when saving as .doc from OOo 3.0.1 OOO300m15 (build:9379) Win XP, SP3. That is to say, if I format bullets and save as .odt the formatting is saved; if I format bullets and save as .doc the formatting changes appear to be lost. I've tried using paragraph styles, character styles, and all suggestions under various issues reported that are duplicates of issue 30960 to no avail. Some bullets appear as normal size; some bullets appear too big; some bullets appear too small; all in the same document where formatting and bullet size changes have been applied to attempt to make them all the same. On a system without Word installed, using .odt as a "master document" then doing Save As .doc ... I cannot tell whether the bullet size and formatting is preserved upon save and broken upon opening .doc again, or if the Save As .doc file is actually broken. HTH - Still better than paying for Word! Thanks OOo team!
On Linux: 3.1.1 - Start off with incorrectly sized bullet (see attachment) - Select all text, resize to (e.g. 8pt) - save in M$ Word format (XP) - close, re-open the saved document - previous formatting (resize to 8pt) lost I would expect that the bullet point resize that occurred when everything else was resized to 8pt would also be conserved.
Same story on Windows XP: 3.2.0
