Description doctornemesis 2004-10-26 14:05:36 UTC
The default bullet point style is blank.

* Start a new document.
* Select "Bullets On/Off" from the formating tool bar.
* The text will indent properly, but there are no "dots" visible.

When selecting the properties of the bullet points using "Context
Menu->Numbering/Bullets..." the first (top left) style of bullets has "text
lines" but no bullet points (see attachment for screen shot).

When selecting the same bullet point property in OOo 1.1.3 the first (top left)
style contains small bullet point dots.

This is using Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, using a S3 Graphics
ProSavageDDR graphics card in a laptop.

not reproducible on Win98 with 19M56, will retest with WinXP
Comment 3 flibby05 2004-10-26 19:54:31 UTC
not reproducible with 19M56 on WinXP.

Do you have the font installed which is used to display the bullet?
(I think it is Times New Roman, but I am not sure.. however it is the font,
which is selected, if the "Bullet Floating Bar" pops up..)
Comment 4 doctornemesis 2004-10-26 21:18:19 UTC
The StarSymbol font is not installed on my PC, this is the font listed in the
"Bullet Floating Bar". Looking around it appears OpenSymbol (which I do have)
should replace it if StarSymbol is missing.

Using the "Bullet Floating Bar" to change the bullet font appears to have no effect.

MRU->HDU: I had a look and this happens when "only" the OpenSymbol font is
available. Then the default Bullets are not shown when a bullet list is activated.
Please have a look if this is a problem fonts or in the numbering implementation
(because Henning is absent).

HDU->FL: is this a duplicate to issue 32327?
Comment 7 doctornemesis 2004-10-27 16:31:03 UTC
This appears to be a duplicate of 19105 (which is mentioned in issue 32327).

However, 19105 is listed as a WinME problem, and says that XP is not affected.

My problem is with Windows XP, which is why my search for XP formatting problems
did not reveal it.

The workaround listed in 19105 worked on my XP system (Tools->Options->Fonts).

Should this issue be closed and moved to 19105? Can the Issue OS be set to more
than one operating system?

FL: In think this one sounds like a double to issue 32327, but I think the root
cause is still unclear because now it happens on XP also. Maybe should set this
one as a double to 32327 and change the platform to Windows XP or at least add a
comment to the description.

Initially we planned to change the standard bullets (especially the first one to
a little bit bigger one) for OOo 2.0, but it is not sure today that we can
realize this. The change is already contained in num02 cild workspace. but that
one will not be integrated for 2.0. I think we have to wait for the decision of
Andreas Martens / Henning Brinkmann if we will shift this one and several other
small features to a separate child workspace with OOo 2.0 target.

Please find the new bullets characters described in here:

Comment 9 hdu@apache.org 2004-11-05 13:21:28 UTC
Yes this is a duplicate to issue 32327. The reason it happens also on XP is
because the OpenSymbol font that gets installed on XP is exactly the same that
is used on all other platforms: It just doesn't contain the code points
requested in the original specification.
