Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 3884
MS Word Input filter cannot handle linked Visio objects
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:30:06 UTC
I noticed in version 641D (current release), that when I try to import a WORD document to OpenOffice, the type of the linked(!) Visio objects in the imported OO document changes to type "Graphics". Because of this, I cannot edit them in Visio anymore if I doubleclick on the object. The problem is reproducible. I can send samples, if needed! (Linked objects in MS Word are not embedded in the document. To edit them, you need the original file which was used when the object was created.) The importing of the embedded Visio objects are perfect, there is no problem with them at all. I suspect, that this might not be a Visio-only problem...
JA->MRU: please check this...reassigned to you
That's easily to explain. Star-/OpenOffice does not support linked OLE-objects since version 5.0. So the import is not able to handle this and these objects are imported as graphics (the last view of the object is stored inside the word file. MRU->CJ: Is it planned for the future that Star-/OpenOffice will have support for linked OLE objects back?

Currently there are no plans, but it would be a great enhancement. I change the issue type from defect to enhancement. Bettina could you please take care on this. Thanks.

this requirement was pointed out again by the user in Japan. Japanese issuetracker: http://oooug.jp/faq/index.php?faq/4/357

Dear developers, would not it make sense to change component to Drawing for this issue?
Hi Mathias, I have changed the current owner to your owner. Please take the ownership of these enhancements.
This is important, but issue 25696 (now closed - and maybe too different) was important too. Both functions (embedding and editing) would be nice.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
