Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 41609
contents of Filter Selection dialog should be alphabetized or grouped
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
In OOo 680m74, when you try to open a file whose format OOo can't decipher, the Filter Selection dialog comes up. There are about 70 different items to chose from, but they don't appear to be in any logical order. For example, the first four times are: OOo 1.0 Text Document PSD Adobe Photoshop Web Page Query (OOo Calc) StarWriter 4.0 The makes it very hard to find the correct item. The items should either be alphabetized or grouped in some other logical way (such as all text formats together, then all spreadsheet formats, etc.). I think that alphabetizing is both the easiest conceptually and in terms of implementation (since it could be alphabetized on the fly).
Hi, Yes, this is definitely a pain in the arse. This just occured (680m79) during a "file recovery" and not even all the OOo document types are grouped together. :( Screenshot attached in case it helps. Regards and best wishes, Justin Clift
Created attachment 22840 [details] Screenshot of the extremely unhelpful listing.
MRU->PB: the filter selection dialog should really have a better order. Perhaps the order of the list in the fileOpen dialog.
Just want to chime in -- the filter selection dialog is really hard to use, as it is. IMHO it should - propose a filter based on the file extension (i.e. the Powerpoint filter for .ppt files) - sort all other entries alphabetically - provide a search line, that allows searching for e.g. "Powerpoint" and only show matching entries
