Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 41923
RFE: PDF Export of multiple outline numberings
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:17:54 UTC
I'm impressed with the additional features of the PDF Export function in the Open Office 2.0 developer drops. :D Great stuff! But I've noted a little bug in tagging. More specifically, the bookmarks in the following scenario don't get generated properly. My document has a bunch of headings (1-4), and appendices at the end. It seems that the Appendix styles I've created (Appendix 1 based on Heading 1 style etc.) don't get tagged into the PDF correctly. In the Tools->Outline Numbering I have the Appendix 1 set to level 8, showing as sublevel 1, prepend "Append A " etc etc. But when I export the document to PDF it turns out that the Appendix gets tagged as a subsection of the previous top level section! :| Comme ca: 8 References |_ Appendix A - Detailed Graphs When it should be, obviously, comme ca: 8 References Appendix A - Detailed Graphs
Ooops, one quick note of interested to weed out the obvious. I've got a style "First Heading 1" in my work (it's the first heading, with custom styles etc etc) and I set that up in Outline Numbering at level 7. Similar to the Appendix 1 scenario I've described. BUUUT It shows up correctly in the PDF tagging.
This would be somthing for fme
FME: First I have to lower the priority: http://www.openoffice.org/scdocs/ddIssues_EnterModify.html#priority FME->msowka: Please attach the document causing the problems. FME->MRU: Please have a look if this is something for 2.0
PDF is HI's area.

After thinking about this some more... I guess Open Office "does the right thing" for now by laying out the heading in the Navigator AND PDF OUPUT according to level. I hope You understand my concern from the sample document, there needs to be a way to have alternative 1ST LEVEL headings such as Appendices. Gauged from "show level"? I'll leave it to the Pros. Anything else I can do?
I can comment further on this. I believe the correct way to do this would be to create a special numbering that would put 'Appendix' before the title (easily done). However, the problem is that when you apply a numbering style to a title style, you loose the bookmark ability (you can't see it anymore in the navigator and pdf). There should be a mean to keep this ability to have bookmarks for numbering or for a paragraph style, however i did not find any way to do this. The only thing that work is the 'numbering: outline', that you have by default for titles, but that you can't select yourself. This numbering is related to the Tools->Outline numbering. I hope I made myself clear. I can attach the document with the new styles if needed.
HI->FME: From my point of view this is not defect but a enhancement. Don't you have already such project?
FME->HBRINKM: This issue basically is a request for multiple outline numberings. Please have a look if this is a duplicate of one of your issues.
*** Issue 51869 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
As HI and FME says: Enhancement. Hwoarang
OD took over numbering
accpeting this issue - set appropriate target. Yes, this is an enhancement. Currently, we (MRU, FL and OD) are working on a feature specification to introduce the ability in the Writer to get a heading into a text document independent on the outline style (menu Tools - Outline Numbering) and its assigned paragraph styles.
fme: I'll change the title to better reflect the actual problem. fme->msowka: There seems to be a workaround for your problem (found by OD): Assign style Heading 1 to the Appendix paragraph. Create a new numbering style and assign it to the Appendix paragraph. This way the Appendix paragraph will be on level 1 in the navigator/pdf file but the actual numbering comes from the new numbering style.
Yes, the workaround works beautifully. If someone wants to see how this works I'm attaching an example document. I've added a new Appendix Numbering based on Numbering 1. The only quirk here (and I think this applies aside of this issue) is that you have to sneak a ' ' (space) After the numbering character so that the numbering and heading are not melded in the PDF bookmark Thanks OD, FME, Mike

Forgot to comment that: conceptually, this workaround actually makes good (better) sense as appendices are really just Level 1 headings with different numbering...
according to release status meeting -> 3.x
This issue should be solved this the implementation of issue 70748
setting keyword "numbering"
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
