Description webmaster 2005-03-02 07:08:09 UTC
You STILL cannot multiple select images. According to a bug issue I posted
earlier, it was fixed - 2.0bc STILL has the problem.

PLEASE fix it!

Hi sba,
this seems to be a duplicate of issue 32493 or a "try of reopening"...?

SBA: The "try to reopen" was justified... Please let me explain:

In Writer, only draw objects can be multi-selected and grouped. This was broken
and fixed along with issue 37891. I did not realize that issue 32493 ("You
cannot select multiple IMAGES") was NOT a duplicate of issue 37891 ("Selection
of 2 DRAWING OBJECTS") and thus closed it wrongly as a duplicate.

I am sorry for the confusion. But let's leave the cosed issues as they are.

I talked to OD (the developer in this area). Implementing multi-selection all
kind of objects was indeed considered for OOo 2.0. It was dropped because of
limited developer ressources for the given time frame of OOo 2.0.
I don't want to bore you with details of the fact that re-working such an area
(Use the drawing engine within Writer, as Calc does it) is far more work than
"the outcome looks like from the users point of view".

Summary: This one is
(1) not a defect but an enhancement
(2) a huge effort that will require a lot of developers time
(3) a duplicate of issue 30523 (really! :-)
