Description hwoarang 2005-03-07 13:23:54 UTC
Hi.
If I insert a figure, as link, from my LAN (\\server\c\My Documents\figure.bmp)
in a .sxw file, when I load this file the link to this figure is not working.
Even if I update the link.

What I did:
Insert > Figure > From File
type \\Servidor\c\Sistema de Gestão da Qualidade\Logotipos\logo2.bmp in File name
Ok
Close the document and save it.
Reopen it
I cant see the figure, but a square with the path instead.

Inserting figure as link from my local hd works fine.

Using:
Windows98SE pt_br
Ooo 2.0bc (1.9.79) pt_br

Thank you
Hwoarang

Tests with

1.1.4 (German) WIN 98: [645m52 (Build 8824)] (PC1)
2.0 (1.9.m104) German version WIN 98: [680m104(Build8913)] (PC1)
2.0 (1.9.m113) German version WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)] (PC2)

On both PC of this small network we have been using 1.1.4 without problems, open
and save of files on other PC via network without problem.
Both 2.0 installations are single PC installations.

I checked with I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m104) German version WIN 98:
[680m104(Build8913)] and can confirm the problem.

Steps to reproduce the problem (I use German version, names for Menu items
translated by me:
0. Open OOo on PC1, Menu: "Tools - Options - General" uncheck box
   "use OOo menues"
1. Create new writer document and save.
2. Menu: "Insert - image - from file
3. select an image via network from PC2 by file browser like
   "file://server/path/sub path/sub path/sub path/sub path/image.jpg"
(That might be no correct UNC syntax, but also reproduces the problem)
   Check box "link"
   <ENTER>
   expected: Image visible
   actual: as expected.
4. close file
5. reopen file
expected: Image still visible in document
actual: only placeholder with link text visible.

Same proceeding with 1.1.4 works without problem
Same proceeding on PC2 (WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)]) with image on PC1 works
without problem.

This bug would be a bad regression compared with 1.1.4 and make OOo 2.0 unusable
for many network users , so I recommend to fix that for 2.0 with high priority.

Same results as in "Additional comments from rainerbielefeld Sun Jul 10 08:59:05
-0700 2005" for manual input of image URI "\\server\path\sub path\sub path\sub
path\sub path\image.jpg"
Comment 4 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-10 18:44:16 UTC
There is a workaround that solves the problem.

I did several successful tests after I established a "Net drive assembly" ((?)
from german: "Netzlaufwerk) on the WIN 98 PC, so we can reduce priority.
Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-10 18:55:22 UTC
The workaround does not solve all problems. After establishing the "Net drive
assembly" I was able to work on PC1 (WIN98) without bigger problems and a test
due to "Additional comments from rainerbielefeld Sun Jul 10 08:59:05 -0700
2005" was successful (image was still in document aftr save and reopen).

But: When I now open the Document from PC2 via network, the image is missing
again and only a placeholder with path is visible.

With 1.1.4 that problem does not exist, there I can reopen a document created on
PC1 (WIN98) with image from PC2 in it without problem from PC2 via network.

TM->HRO: Reproducible in a m116 build.
