Description Regina Henschel 2005-05-09 16:10:19 UTC
I use a German WinXP Home and so does not know the Englisch entries. I found
this in OOo1.9.100 Enlisch.
You can dock stylist or navigator, when you grap the title bar with the mouse
and drag the window to the border of the application window. But in WinXP Home
this is only possible, if you have checked "Fensterinhalt beim Ziehen anzeigen"
in "Eigenschaften von Anzeige - Darstellung - Effekte". If you uncheck it,
docking is no more possible.

You can test it on the fly bei changing that property with "übernehmen".

Expected behavior: Docking in OOo should be independend of that property of WinXP.

TM->requirements. This is not a defect because it works as designed but might be
a wish for an enhancement. So please have alook, thanks !
Comment 2 andreschnabel 2005-07-01 18:39:51 UTC
andreschnabel->tm:
can you tell, where this behaviour is specified?
imo it's a bug, that docking of OOo window depensds on windows-setting (show
window content while moving)
Comment 3 lohmaier 2005-07-01 19:07:16 UTC
@andre: if you want an answer, you have to reassign it back to tm..
If you can reproduce, then please set the issue to "new" (I only have linux)

I doubt as well that tm understood the issue correctly and that this doesn't
work as specified. -> back to defect and back to tm.

Why would you handle docking differently depending on what window-settings you have?

The problem is:

docking is impossible when "show window contents during dragging" is unchecked
in window's properties (don't know how it's called in english)

Same behaviour on Windows XP Professional, Ooo 1.9.110-de (by Pavel)

I can not see why a OS-setting should affect Ooo-behaviour.

I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m104) English version WIN XP: [680m104(Build8913)] and
normally I am not able to dock Navigator Window by dragging the window by its
title bar to the side, only by doubleclick into the grey area. Funny thing, 1
time I was successful without changing any properties or WIN-settings.

Question: where (f. f.) can I find the WIN-Setting "Fensterinhalt beim Ziehen
anzeigen"?
Comment 6 Regina Henschel 2005-07-05 14:30:53 UTC
I will first describe it in German, because my WinXP is German, than I try to
translate it.
Ziehen anzeigen".
Because I have no English WinXP the real terms will differ from my translations,
but I hope the descriptin is clear: You need the dialog "display properties".
You get this dialog with rightclick on the desktop, item "properties" or with
the dialog "system" item "display". Go to the forth tab, "viewing", and click on
the button "effect". There you find the checkbox "show window content while
dragging".
Comment 7 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-07-05 16:15:54 UTC
Yes, it's absolutely reproducible for me with 2.0 (1.9.m104) English version
WIN XP: [680m104(Build8913)], it is impossible to dock Navigator with disabled
OS-function "show window content while dragging". I did several tests an
sometimes I even failed to dock the Navigator Window with enabled "show window
content while dragging". It always worked for my after I resized the Navigator
window so that the vertical scrollbar disappeared.

The behaviour of 2.0 (1.9.m104) English version WIN XP: [680m104(Build8913)]
deffers from that I am used from 1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)].
1.1.4 can dock Navigator even with isabled OS-function "show window content
while dragging"

TM->SSA: Please have alook. Seems that we have lost a feature/funtionality from
1.1 to 2.0. Dragging without "full drag" settings in the OS is impossible with
our new implementation. Even if it might be more difficult as in 1.1 we should
provide a way to allow dragging somehow without these system settings. Thanks !
Comment 11 stephan_schaefer 2005-08-10 08:52:00 UTC
There is a rework in progress that will change the floating windows (like the
Navigator) to the same window style as the toolbars, which means they will
always have the full-drag setting regardless of the system settings.
In fact, in the 1.x versions it only worked by chance and you had to release the
mouse at the correct position without knowing exactly where it was, because
there is just no visual feedback.
I will close this task as it will be obsolete for the next version. The issue
that deals with the rework is issue 36498.

Closing.
Comment 13 andreschnabel 2005-12-15 21:39:50 UTC
wontfix with target makes no sense -> reset target
Comment 14 ace_dent 2006-01-26 16:22:15 UTC
Just as a note, this is a duplicate of Issue 34373.
Now at version 680m152, this issue is still present and has yet to be fixed.

Regards,
Andrew

Actually this problem seems to be common to all OSes and be dup of
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=34373. Reopening to reset.
Comment 16 kpalagin 2007-03-20 02:50:34 UTC
