i tried to enter simple math expresion. 
i entered:
a_{k}=sum from{i=0} to{k} x^{i}  

sum sign and = sign is not visible.

is this Formula editor working at all?

Did you checkout the issue 4516 and the solutions that are provided there?

After applying the solution provided in issue 4516 problem is solved.
It is only that the font OpenSymbol is not entered correctly in the
Registry. Make a save copy from the font folder. Delete the font in
the control panel (-> fonts) and add it again from the save copy you made.
