Cut and Paste Error
Last modified: 2020-10-25 17:38:44 UTC
Hello, OO does not always paste everything which has been selected. Example: Load the attached document. Look at the latest graphic. Press Control + A, Control + X. Press Control + V -> the graphic at the end has not been pasted. Best regards, Lars

I was also able to reproduce this defect while using Linux 2.4.31 with OOo 2.0 and Windows XP with OOo 2.0. When I tried to reproduce this bug with Windows 2000 Professional and OOo 2.0 my results were a bit different. The bug was occurring even before the paste step (control v). Theses are the steps that I used and what I observed: 1) Control A (select all) -all text is selected 2) Control X (cut) -everything is cut except for the last graphic on the page. 3) Control V (paste) -does not paste the last graphic is probably because it was never cut. Additionally, I ran some follow up testing: Test 1: Tried removing the last graphic from the document. Results from Linux 2.4.31, Windows XP and Windows 2000 with Ooo 2.0: When the last graphic was removed everything in the document was selected, cut and pasted fine including the last graphic in the edited file. Test 2: Switched the positioning of the last graphic and the second last graphic. Results from Windows XP and Linux 2.4.31 with OOo 2.0: Both the last two graphics were cut fine but did not get pasted. Results from Windows 2000 with OOo 2.0: The last graphic in the edited file was not being cut or pasted. Test 3: Tried cutting the graphic by selecting it in a different way. Results from Linux 2.4.31, Windows XP and Windows 2000 with Ooo 2.0: When the last graphic was selected by clicking the mouse on it and selecting it, the cut and the paste worked fine. The importance of this bug is not too high since it seems to be directly related to this document and the images it contains. It is not the case that open office always misses the last graphic on the page when trying to select all and cut. A way around this problem is to select the graphic by clicking on it and then cutting and pasting.
i have seen this problem too
I wanted to see if the cut and paste error was occuring in other files with graphics so I tested a few and I noticed that it was. I also noticed something interesting with the sample file provided. If I clicked the mouse past the last graphic and pressed the return key then tried the cut and paste it worked fine. I believe a solution to this problem is to place the cursor past the last graphic in the page and add a newline (press enter key) or keep pressing the enter key until you pass the last graphic. I also tested this idea with a few sample files that I created that were having the same error and it worked for them. I also tried this idea with Test1 and Test2 mentioned in my other comments on the sample file provided (CutandPasteError) and I was able to get the cut and paste to work everytime. After testing the cut and past error with other files I do believe that its importance is higher than I originally believed. This bug is occuring with other files and graphics and it should be looked at.
replicated at OOo2.0 on windows xp professional SP This bug also occurs when use copy and paste Steps: 1 open an new empty document 2 "Insert"--"Picture"--"From file" and select an image file 3 type some words under the image.( dont press enter key); 4 press CTRL+A, then CTRL+C, then CTRL+v only text got pasted, I did some follow up tests, i realize if we press enter key after words. all function works fine.And when i paste content from the clipboard, it also works fine. it shows paste function doesnot have problem, something is wrong when Writter copy conect to the clipboard
I replicated the bug on a kernel 2.4.31 Red Hat machine. I noticed something interesting. When I replaced step 2 provided by 'shivjin' with the following: 1- press 'Delete' 2- press 'Backspace' 3-press any arbitrary keys In all the cases we would expect the entire text that was previously on the screen to disappear and in the last case some arbitrary characters to appear. The results were however a little different as I still faced the same problem and the last image was still hanging there. This made me realize that the problem is not at all a cut and paste problem but more of a selection problem. Namely the common feature that all of these cases here is the defect that upon ctl-A the last image is not selected as part of the selected text. As a consequence of this each of the cases appear problematic in their own ways.
ES->OD: please, have a look!-
OD->ES: Please set a target and assign the issue to hbrinkm or tra
ES->OD: thinking about an anchor problem. OOo 1.1.5 doesn't do it better but else...
OD->TRA: Please take over.

Oliver, from the comments I couldn't see where the problem might be. Can you explain?
Hi no one objects I would like to change the priority to P2 as this is quite a while open and I believe this is a very annoying bug.
I have confirmed this bug still occurs. I am running open office 2.4.1 on Windows 7 Beta. I tried the example attached and it occurs, but slightly differently as shivjin mentioned, the bug occurs before cutting, meaning when the graphics are all selected and then cut, the last graphic remains, so it is never cut. I also tried making two of my own files to confirm this. The first one, called “my random graphics test.odt†does not cut or paste the first graphic. That one I think can be explain by where the cursor can be located on the document. If you try to place the selection cursor above the image, it does not allow you to do so, and in turn, does not cut the first image. However, in the other file I am attaching called “my random graphics test 2.odtâ€, I purposely place the first graphic below the selection cursor, and when you cut the image, the last one is not cut or pasted this time. However, this image is placed below the furthest point the selection cursor can go, therefore does not cut that picture either. After doing this, experimenting with the placement of the images relative to the selection cursor, I went back to the original file posted by vogella. I noticed the selection cursor is exactly one line below the last image. So I tried adding a few more lines by way of the enter key, and it cuts the last image and also pastes it. I tried going back to the two files I made, and placing the cursor just one line below the image, and once again, it will not cut the image or paste it. So there is a work around I think, however there is still some errors in regards to where the selection cursor and the images are placed.

Using the following attachment: Tue Mar 31 11:06:00 +0000 2009: my random graphics test 2.odt I was able to recreate this issue on Version 3.1.1 OOO310m19 (Build:9420) running Windows Vista-64 SP1.
Used my random graphics test 2.odt and was able to recreate this issue.Was able to replicate the error. Not only the copy paste error but also some more errors described by zhanghongbin Thu Jan 26 05:15:51 +0000 2006. Furthermore, if we write text below the picture and we press "Enter" key between the picture and text placing it works fine, however if we don't press "Enter" key it will not paste the whole contents.

Since the Discussion is focusing mostly on Pictures, I merge this one with the Issue on the Picture Cut & Paste Issue. This issue seems to be less well described then the other one, so I choose to priorize the Issue 115994. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of issue 115994 ***
