Description tsudhonimh 2002-06-18 20:18:50 UTC
We need to provide drawings in EPS with a TIFF preview for the corporate
publishing system. The OpenOffice.org drawing program is just what we need for
making these simple schematics - like Visio was before it got feature bloat.

However, when we export to EPS, the whole page is exported, not just the drawing
objects. The end result usually has HUGE amount of whitespace and doesn't
import well into the publishing system. The workaround is to create custom
(user) paper the size we need for standard drawings, and export drawings from
that imaginary paper.

Would it be possible to have a command that exports JUST the drawing objects as
EPS? Or just the selected ones? I'm sure the software knowns where the
objects are ... it can do a select all on them.

Feature already exists.
1. Select objects to export.
2. Select EPS from the from the "Save type as" pulldown box.
3. Check the "Selection" box at the bottom.
4. Press "Save" button.
5. Make TIFF is selected on the "EPS Export Options" dialogue.
It works!

OK ... let's try it:
1. Select objects to export.
2. Select EPS from the from the "Save type as" pulldown box.
Selections in this box (Windows version) do not include EPS.
I can save as OO.org file or template, or Star Office file or
   template.
3. Check the "Selection" box at the bottom.
   Box does not exist.

It doesn't work as you describe it ... but you gave me a hint, and
it works if I start with FILE\ EXPORT instead of FILE\ SAVE

I'm going to change this to a Documentation issue, because it's not
explained this clearly in the help files (I really looked), and it's
something that has to be done a lot with EPS files.

Suggested text to add:

To export part of a page as EPS:
1. Select the objects to export.
2. Select EPS from the "Save as Type" pulldown box.
3. Check the "Selection" box at the bottom of the dialog.
4. Click the "Save" button.
5. If you want a preview, select TIFF in the "EPS Export Options"
dialogue that appears.
6. Click OK to save the selection as EPS.

I have created a FAQ for this. It is located at:

http://documentation.openoffice.org/user_faq/drawing_graphics/015.html

Does it meet with everyones approval?
