- Problem with endess loop on file loading -

I just ran into a problem with OOWriter2.02, which I can not solve. I modified a
document, which contains several links to pictures (.pcx) and some embedded
objects like equations written with the microsoft equedit 3.0, and drawings from
CorelDesigner 10.0.

I stored, reopened and edited that document several times without problems, but
when I try now to open it again, after a few seconds (i.e. as soon as the blue
progress status bar vanishes) the process soffice.bin consumes 100% of the
processor time, even before I touch anything in the document. According to the
task manager, the number of handles used by all process just increases and
decreases by some +/- 5, but nothing really happens. The process obviously runs
in some endless loop. No disk i/o occurs - it is seemingly just a loop in the code.
I just noticed, that some equation numbers I use and which should include the
chapter number show some unrealistiv values for this chapter number part (e.g.
"4.104.10" instead of just "4.10".

Is there any way to get rid of this problem? Any workaround? Any means to locate
more precisely what makes the program hang up?

I use Windows XP, Oo2.02.

I cannot reproduce the problem (checked with OO 2.0.2 and OO 2.0.3 on Windows XP).
Maybe there's a problem with the configuration folder. Try to delete it (in
c:\documents and settings\userID\Application Dara\).

Thank you for your efforts!

I verified the problem with this special document before already on two
different computers, both with Oo2.02 and WinXP.
Very similar documents which form other sub-parts of the same global manuscript
all work well, therefore I do not believe that it is a problem with some
settings in the directory C:\....\OpenOffice.org2 .

I tried now two different things:
- Opening the document under SuSe linux with Oo2.0 works.
- Opening the global document and selecting "refresh all links" (in my German
version: "alle Verknüpfungen aktualisieren") works - but the sub-document is
write-protected then.

Thus, using linux I have my workaround, but my impression is still that the win
version of Oo2.02 has some not stable behaviour in the file opening part, which
causes problems when some embedded objects exist.

MRU->ES: it does not seem to be a layout loop - more when updating links to
grpahics or subdocuments.

I have no problems loading this document.

WinXP Home SP2, OOo 2.0.3 RC5

@ktphys: can you please try 2.0.3 and tell us if it's still a problem?
Comment 7 ktphys 2006-06-13 11:15:54 UTC
Where can I get the Version 2.03? I just find the beta-version 2.0.169.

One more observation on the loading of my defective file: I have the impression,
that the endless loop starts as soon as the spell-checker begins to work and
underlines with the red wave line some words unknown to it. I have installed the
German, French and English version of this tool. Could it eventually be that the
problem is linked to this part of the loading procedure?

Well it's not yet a 2.0.3 but a developper build:
http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html

It is possible that it's a spell checker problem, but frankly, I don't think so.
