Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 78360
Cursor does not open where one left off
Last modified: 2014-04-06 12:57:32 UTC
I wrote about this once before, but it could not be reproduced. Now I know why. My problem was that even though OO Write was set to open up with the cursor where one left off, it always opened with the cursor on the top. The team could not reproduce this problem. Now I know why. The feature does indeed work, but only if one works in ODT format. I am forced to work in DOC format, and there that feature is not implemented. (It is implemented, though, within MS WORD.) It would be nice if the coding could be extended to have that feature work in DOC format as well, so that people could work painlessly without having to lose this feature.
Reassigned to SBA.
Don't know if this is feasable for Word probably stores other infos as we do... Reassigned
I reproduced this in both the DOC & ODT formats. When I saved a document in both these formats they opened with the cursor where I left off, the cursor was always at the top.

I reproduced this in both the DOC & ODT formats. When I saved a document in both these formats they opened with the cursor where I left off, the cursor was always at the top. The following steps were executed: 1) Opened OpenOffice.org.3.3 on XP OS. 2) Started a new document, entered a few lines of text and left cursor where I left off. 3) Saved document using a .doc extension. 4) Opened saved document and the cursor was at top of screen, not where I left off. 5) Repeated steps 1-4 but saved as a .odt extension and received same result.
I'm not sure that I understand this feature. I apologize if I am wasting your time with an irrelevant pair of tests. Version OOo0dev 3.5.0 Windows 7. Bug 76674 tells me that as of OOo 2.2, the program does not automatically open the file to the last cursor position. Instead, when you open the file, the cursor will go to the top but you can jump to the last cursor position (where it was when the file was saved) with Shift-F5. I created a simple, 2-page file and moved the cursor to the middle of the second page. Save (ODT). Close. Open the file. Shift-F5. Result: the cursor moved to the correct place on the second page. I edited the file slightly (added a period). Left the cursor in the middle of the second page. Save (Doc - Word 97/2000/XP. Close. Open. Open the file. Shift-F5. Result, the cursor doesn't move. It stays at the top of the first page.
