Description lohmaier 2007-10-03 10:16:48 UTC
Search for cws-anounce mailinglist doesn't work (doesn't find anything at all,
although there are multiple messages that match the query in the archive) and
doesn't contain the latest message(s)

e.g. search for "OOG" - nothing is found. search for "ready for use" nothing is
found.

October only shows 1 message in the archive, and misses the announce for
OOG680_m6 for example.

The problem of the missing articles in the archive are covered in issue 82242.

Let's focus on search here. I understand and tested that search specific to mail
archives (opposed to site wide search) does not work as expected.

Hi

To proceed working on the issue , Could you please provide the following details

1)What exactly was the mailing list archive searched for?
2)Should the mails that were searched be available in the mailing list archive?
3)Can you provide the detail on what was entered in the query to search for the
mails?
4)Can you please provide information on what error you are receiving when the
search was made? Can you please provide the screen shots of the error received?

sigh - what about reading this issue?

the list is cws-announce. that is mentioned in the summary, in the initial
comment and I even added the URL to the list to this issue in the URL-box.

And I also wrote what I searched for: "OOG" for example, or "ready for use"

If you'll have a look at the archives, you'll see that of course the matches
shall be returned. All the announces have "foo is ready for use" in the summary.

The result the site returns is "No matches found"

I'll provide screenshots when you can provide screenshots where the search
returned results...

Hi Cloph,

The reason for the mailing list to be unsearchable is because of the hyphen in
its name. Refer the above statement in the 3.0 release notes.

We have found a workaround for you, which would help you in search mailing list
Workaround : Please use the domain wide search. Refer the link below for your
workaround.

http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/Search?artifact=eyebrowse+message&mode=advanced&query=ready%20for%20use&resultsPerPage=40&scope=domain

Resolution : This issue has been fixed in the discussion services component
which is found in C.E.E 5.0 .

I'm somewhat puzzled as to what response you expect.

You basically wrote already that the mailinglist-archives suck, that it is a
known issue for a rather long time (known by CollabNet)(although it is somewhat
hidden under "Document & Files" in the release notes, not in a Mailinglist section)

And before I use the hack to use the site-search (that on the one hand sucks
less than before the last upgrade, but still is far from being really useful,
especially when it comes to searching a mailinglist) I'll subscribe the list to
an external archive that doesn't have these problems and offers way more
comfort, a more powerful search and a much better browsable archive on top of that.

I know you're not responsible yourself, you're just the messenger that gets
shot, so please don't get this wrong - it is not my intention to attack or
insult you - it is merely an expression of my frustration about the quality of
the mail-services on CEE/OOo as a whole...
The discussion sevices are not a replacement for mailinglists, besides that:
How will the site be upgraded to a newer version of CEE? As you probably cannot
answer that question, and I cannot modify the mailinglist subsystem - there is
nothing left to say in this issue.

Feel free to close "resolved later" and assing a cryptic tag to it...

>> I agreed to the point above and hence been our effort to provide you our
customer a much more improved tool [Discussion Service] for your day-to-day use.

The discussion sevices are not a replacement for mailinglists, besides that:
>> Please Discussion Services is a replacement for both Mailing List and
Discussion Forum .

Also the link below provides the details of the new Rubicon release.

http://www.collab.net/rn/5_0_0.html

Also if required we could provide you a site which has the features mentioned as
a preview . A mail would have reached you by now from the site
http://sclatest.inst.collab.net with login information.

Have a peek and let us know your feedback . This link gives you an idea of what
is in store

http://discussion-services.open.collab.net/

How will the site be upgraded to a newer version of CEE? As you probably cannot
answer that question, and I cannot modify the mailinglist subsystem - there is
nothing left to say in this issue.

>> Might be you would have a different perspective after playing around with
Discussion Service and please note we would be soon providing the upgrade offer
to Openoffice for upgrading to the release 5.0.0
