Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83000
CTL/Western samples in font drop-down list
Last modified: 2013-03-11 15:01:30 UTC
Frequently CTL users have a problem choosing a font when writing in their langauge. When looking at the font drop-down list, there is no way of knowing whether a given font supports the CTL language. I've written a patch for the font drop-down list, so that each line displays not only the font name, but also a sample of CTL text, if the font supports the default CTL langauge. For example, instead of 'Arial', it will display 'Arial — אבג' (the first three letters of the Hebrew alphabet). If the font does not support the default CTL language, but does support the default Western language, it adds a sample of the Western Langauge. For example, instead of 'Arial', it will display 'Arial — ABC'. If the font supports neither the default Western, not the default CTL language, no sample is added to the name of the font. I mentioned this in Issue 23402 which deals with a related problem, but since the patch does not directly address the issue discussed there, I'm filing it as a separate issue.

In response to Jonathon Blake's request at: http://l10n.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=8249 I'm adding CJK to my patch. CJK expects are invited to check it out.

changing issue type to patch
I'm adding this comment to all open issues with Issue Type == PATCH. We have 220 such issues, many of them quite old. I apologize for that. We need your help in prioritizing which patches should be integrated into our next release, Apache OpenOffice 4.0. If you have submitted a patch and think it is applicable for AOO 4.0, please respond with a comment to let us know. On the other hand, if the patch is no longer relevant, please let us know that as well. If you have any general questions or want to discuss this further, please send a note to our dev mailing list: dev@openoffice.apache.org Thanks! -Rob
