Description sjohannes 2007-12-06 05:54:06 UTC
The test case is:
a[i] = a left [ i right ]

Depending on the zoom level, it may lose the lower line, upper line, both, or
none. See the attached screenshots (at 100%, 150%, 200%, and 250% zoom).

This is problematic because the chars look like the ceil/floor/abs function.

The bug only affects screen output; the PDF export looks alright.

(Tested in 2.3.1, but currently the BTS doesn't have that version.)

MRU->TL: could you please have a look? In certain zoom levels, the small
horizontal part of the "left [" and "right ]" brackets is not displayed. I was
only able to reproduce this with the OpenSymbol font while the StarSymbol seems
to work fine. Maybe it is the same problem as issue Issue 66848?
Comment 6 thomas.lange 2007-12-07 09:57:51 UTC
Can't be fixed without a new font.
This an similar issues with - or = chars have been optimized more than once now.
But the actual problem is that the OpenSymbol font does not use hinting (in
contrast to the StarSymbol font). To solve this we need a new font for
OpenOffice that uses hinting to avoid such problems.

Setting target to OOo 3.0 since it was planned at some time to have a new
OpenOffice font at that release. (Don't know the current state though)
Comment 7 thomas.lange 2008-05-30 10:55:19 UTC
TL->IH: Since I do not know about the current state of affairs for a new font
and if that one will implement hinting, please take over until things are clear.
Thanks!

Comment 18 sjohannes 2008-07-04 05:25:20 UTC
Sorry, forgot to reply. Yeah, it seems to work perfectly now with v1.2. Thanks
for looking into this.
Comment 19 michael.ruess 2008-07-07 15:41:48 UTC
MRU->IH: this leads to the fact, that these parts of the scalable brackets
sometimes look too big. This was also tzhe case before, but IME this became
worse. See my attached test case.

ih->mru: this is not a problem of the font and can not be fixed in this bug
Comment 22 nospam 2008-07-21 12:54:56 UTC
Since not everybody is satisfied with my fix this one will not make it into 3.0

Comment 23 nospam 2009-03-09 14:58:44 UTC
same problem - and will be fixed with #99047 by adding TT-Hinting to the font
