Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 91209
disable Mozilla-based address books on MacOS
Last modified: 2009-03-06 08:38:23 UTC
Issue 90774 describes the problem that accessing a Thunderbird address book on MacOS/Intel currently crashes. This is due to the *very* old binary Mozilla components we ship with OOo, which are simply broken on this platform. To fix issue 90774, we need to upgrade to newer Mozilla components, which unfortunately cannot be done in the given time frame for OOo 3.0. So, we will, for MacOS only, remove the Mozilla components from the installation, this way disabling the access to - Thunderbird address book - Mozilla/SeaMonkey address book - LDAP address book For a later version, issue 90774 will be fixed by upgrading to recent code.
Adding me on CC @fs: can you please give me more information? What exact version of Thunderbird has to be used ..etc Thanks in advance :-)
Isn't it possible to simply deactivate the feature on Mac OS X, instead of remove, the time we find resources for adding the new version ? Would save some times later Thanks :-)
The feature of accessing Mozilla-based address books (Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, LDAP) is actually disabled by simply not packaging the needed SDBC driver - this is sufficient to make it vanish from the UI. So, nothing is lost. Other than that, I don't get you with > What exact version of Thunderbird has to be used The problem in issue 90774 does not depend on the Thunderbird version, since no Thunderbird is actually involved. Instead, some stone-aged Mozilla code is used to access the Thunderbird AB. This code is shipped with OOo itself, and this code is what is broken on Mac Intel, and needs to be upgraded.
@fs Thans for the fast answer. I think I got your point: to be more precise, we use Mozilla 1.7.5 sources (old, indeed). Which version number do you suggest as minimal requirement ?
The higher the better, I'd say - I think I will go for the latest SeaMonkey release.
fs-> clu: please verify in CWS nomacmozab
fixed in CWS nomacmozab find more information about this CWS, like when it is available in the master builds, in EIS, the Environment Information System: http://eis.services.openoffice.org/EIS2/cws.ShowCWS?Path=DEV300%2Fnomacmozab

@fs : Just a question : if I'm not wrong, disable mozilla in the Mac OS X version, will deactivate key signing (no more digital signature) It is a good idea just before 3.0 ?
@fs : please nevermind. This is orthogonal.
ok in m28 - no mozilla-based choices in "connect to existing database" anymore
targeting to 3.2, since the fix is part of a CWS aiming for this release
