Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 91450
Feature-Request: change standard date format
Last modified: 2014-04-17 14:20:53 UTC
The standard date format of OOoCalc seems to be TT.MM.JJ (or YY). As I can see in forums I am not the only person who prefers a long format for the year (TT.MM.YYYY). It is annoying to always have to reformat the date cells. It would be much more convenient if the user could define if the standard date format should be two or four places long, maybe once in the OOoCalc options or maybe by dragging the format to the first place in the list in the dialog where you choose the format. Same for the time format: the user should be able to decide if the standard format is with or without seconds (I'm happy with the seconds but others are not).
reassigning features and enhancements to user requirements@openoffice.org which will be the default owner for those tasks (was introduced some time ago)
1) Format - Styles and Formatting - Cell Styles 2) right click Default - Modify... 3) Numbers - Category=Date - Format=your preferred format
In reply to Edwin Sharp from comment #2) But when I change the standard format every cell will be in that format by default.
So create new styles and assign to cells as you wish...
(In reply to Edwin Sharp from comment #4) > So create new styles and assign to cells as you wish... That would be the same as selecting cells and changing the format. What I want is to change the default date format - and never have to deal with it again. When I choose some other date format in the default style alas that format gets the default format for everything which is contraproductive. When I then type a number it is always converted into a date, there is no automatic recognition of date or not anymore.
And when I add a new subformat for date to default the date is only shown in YYYY in the formula bar but in the cell it is still YY.
If you don't want the date to apply globally, there is no choice but to select cells. The definition of a style is performed only once. And if you change your mind you just modify the style without directly modifying all the cells with that style.

And if you change your > mind you just modify the style without directly modifying all the cells with > that style. I do want the style to be applied globally, but I don't want it to be applied to all cells, just the cells that contain a date. I guess we don't get together in this consent, we should leave it like this - but nonetheless thanks for trying to clear it for me...
