Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98373
Drag and Drop of objects outside sheet area possible at left margin
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:44:35 UTC
Hi, please... - open a writer document - Draw an object - Drag the object and note that you can move it out of the left page border but not out of the other three borders. (Dropping outside the page It should not be possible to drag the object out of the left border. I guess that this is a regression introduced by fixing Issue 1761 where centered pages have been introduced. Please try to drop the drawing outside the left border some times. than try to move it to the left. the object than snaps back to the left border. This is a bug similar to the one described in Issue 73807.
Correction: wrong: "than try to move it to the left" corrected:"than try to move it to the right"
MRU->OD: the "object limits while dragging" will be displayed out of the left page border which is not possible on the right/bottom/top page border.

a full solution for this defect would be quite hard and inefficient due to the fact that the document can contain pages of different sizes. This would mean to calculate a complex area for the dragging. But some improvement are possible: - restrict the dragging area on the left to left border of the page which is most on the left - the same for the right limit of the dragging area. - assure that the positioning attributes are adjusted, if a dragging position is outside the page.
adjusting priority as this issue is in my opinion not release-relevant for OOo 3.4

Indeed, at the left I can drag and drop objects like shapes, frames, pictures outside the sheet area. That's useless, when I release the mouse button the object will move back automatically to left sheet edge. At all other sheet edges drag and drop will stop at sheet edge.
