Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 28332
Automatic First Word capitalization fails after quote.
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:25:47 UTC
Standard (at least in the US) is for a quote to follow a punctuation mark (such as "... George." rather than "... George".) A result of this is that a sentence beginning after the quotation mark is NOT capitalized, which suggests to me that ." is not recognized as the end of a sentence OR it the Autocorrection is disabled by the quotes. In any case, this is an error and is, to say the least, unexpected. (In fixing, other "end of sentence" punctuation marks should be corrected, such as ! and ?)
Reproduced in OOo 1.1.1 and 680_m34. As you say, we would expect AutoCorrect to change: "This is a test." like so ... to ... "This is a test." Like so Note that this is not related to whether "smart quotes" are turned on, though these have caused similar problems in the past (see issue 19077). This autocorrect behaviour is functional in Microsoft Word, but not currently by OOo Writer. Marking issue as new. Stuart.

SBA->OS: As discussed, yours.
.
An other matter is when we choose guillemet typological->simple guillemet->replace->default, with the simple guillemet that we often use in french, thera are no autocorrection with the first letter. For example : This is a test. l’OOo should be chang to : This is a test. L’OOo
Note that there are several other issues concerning capitalisation and "special characters". Beside this one, a quick query reveals these: Issue 17449 (Auto capitalization broken if field comes first in new sentence) Issue 19077 (autocorrect capitalisation fails in words with apostophes) Issue 59720 (Autocapitalization fails after numbers and symbols)
*** Issue 115244 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
