Description falko.tesch 2004-06-23 14:56:44 UTC
In regions where people uses right-to-left directed text like Arabia or Israel
(Hebrew) forms will look strange if they need to use left-to-right layout
control forms.
This specification will enhance OpenOffice.org 2.0 with control forms that can
have both text directions/layout - left-to-right and right-to-left.

Any chance of this issue moving up the list a bit?

With the new database front end in OOo, the lack of a way to control
directionality in forms makes it rather hard to deal with databases containing
Hebrew data, thus by and large eliminating most of the advantages of this new
features for the Israeli/Arab/Farsi market.

Any progress on this issue? It's been two years since it got the status "Started".
Comment 8 Mathias_Bauer 2006-12-11 09:40:01 UTC
Falko is no longer working for OOo. Let me try to get the discussion going again.
From what I understand from the specification draft we have some new elements:

- a form will somehow "inherit" its orientation from the document or parts of it
(currently it gets it from the UI)
- this orientation will used inside the controls (so far so good)
- the form layout itself should be mirrored in case the orientation is R2L; this
is the part I don't understand. Is it because we still want to design the form
in L2R layout?

I hope I can get Falko to give some comments about his spec though he now has
other working assignments. But hopefully other people can help me to understand
the idea also.

This issue is closed automatically. It should be fixed in a version with is
available for longer than half a year (OOo 3.1). If you think this issue isn't
fixed in the current version (OOo 3.2) please reopen it. But then please pay
attention about the field 'target milestone'.
The closure was approved by the Release Status Meeting at 22nd of February 2010
