Description khn 2004-07-27 11:45:44 UTC
if there is a manual page break with a style change in a document it will be
ignored, if you import this document in a master document. both documents based
on the same template.
steps to reproduce:
-> new text document
-> insert some text
-> insert manual page break, change the page style
-> insert some text
-> do a page break again (ctrl-enter)
-> some text again

-> new master document
-> link in the first text document.
the first two lines will be on the first page.

the page style i used, is in my standard template. it is the standard page style
, but landscape and with standard page style as next style.

ES->OS: a manual page break without page style change (i.e. Ctrl+Return) is
reflected in a master doc. If a manual page break is done with a page style
change, not only the style (correct) but also the break itself is ignored (bug).

Hi,
Form issue 60326 (a duplicate) there is an important point what I have to
add to this issue, because ES have written:
"If a manual page break is done with a page style change,
not only the style (correct) but also the break itself is ignored (bug)."

I think, the correct style-handling of the subdocument is the folowing:
If a manual page break is done with a page style change, the style
has to be ignored if not exist in the Master Docuemnt, but should have
applied if the style is exists (with the same name) in the MD. (Because the
style exist in MD and SD and can use different settings, the style of MD should
be used.)

Without this refinement, the subdocument cannot use different
(eg. portrait _and_ landscape) page styles (because otherwise it is
not affected in the MD).
Larger (sub)documents can contains some landscape pages, and
not a good solution to split a subdocument as many parts as many
style change in it. So we have to handle better the style changes in SD.

I can confirm that this problem still exists in OOo 2.1! I am a little bit
shocked about this problem because I would like to you the master document for
my dissertation but as this bug remains there is no way to do so. I think this
is a real showstopper for using the master document.

Please don't forget this bug as described in comment #3 (es) and #8 (lml): "the
break itself is ignored (bug)".
Comment 10 lendo 2009-03-21 14:32:39 UTC
I tested the steps described in the initial comment with OOo 2.4.0, OOo 3.0.0
and OOo-dev 3.1.0 m6 and I think this issue is fixed since 3.0.0. Or do i miss
something? Can someone verify this?

I will attach 2 archives made with 3.0 and 3.1 to test it.

I've tested on OxygenOffice 3.0.1 (Hungarian, win) and Dev310_m7 (En_US, win)
and OOo 3.0.0 linux (en_US, 32 bit).

The page breaks and styles are correctly applied. If the master document and sub
document contains the same page style but different formatting, the master's
formatting is applied (viewing from the master). That's OK.

But there is one more problem:
If you have a master document containing only portrait pages and insert a
subdocument with landscape page (the last subdocument page is landscape), the
master document's pages will be landscape after the subdocument. I won't say
it's a bug, but it's a strange behaviour.
Apart from this, the issue is solved in 3.0, the page breaks work well.
