Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69789
bloat in saving as *.doc file.
Last modified: 2010-11-11 03:46:12 UTC
Create a file with a single letter. (I used a small "a.") Save it as a *.odt file. The save it as a *.doc file. The *.odt file is 7070 bytes while the *.doc file is 102.0KB. I also saved a file with 1.5 pages as a *.odt file and Save As a *.doc file. The *.odt file was 13.1KB while the *.doc file was 114.0KB.

I have tried this as well. On FC4 using OOo Milestone 8, the files I created showed the following. 103936 Sep 22 07:14 File_size_test.doc 6916 Sep 22 07:14 File_size_test.odt A single capital "A" was saved. With a 10 page document of 20,071 characters. No real formatting. 157184 Sep 22 07:23 BadBlockHowTo_test.doc 16662 Sep 22 07:23 BadBlockHowTo_test.odt When I looked at the *.doc files using hexedit, there were a large number of locations just filled with FF's or 00's. Comparing to an original *.doc file created on Windows, there were no large FF's or 00's ranges.
Ok, this is a duplicate of Issue 67371. Please post your comments to that original Issue- I think this is the best way to get the problem re-investigated. regards, Andrew *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 67371 ***
