Description phyotyla 2007-04-16 06:54:09 UTC
JRE Defective window is modal and renews itself constantly. Because the
notification window is modal, I can not save my work or use the OOo gui at all.
I had to kill OOo to get this solved. I think the color chooser window/tab
should be closed so I could ok the notification.
Here's a screenshot http://users.tkk.fi/~phyotyla/snapshot13.png
I'm using Kubuntu 6.10 and OOo 2.0.4-0ubuntu5

Framework issue.

Can you please confirm with a native OOo 2.2 version?
Comment 3 kpalagin 2007-05-23 10:02:37 UTC
Confirming with 2.3m211 on WinXP - as described.
Repro steps:
1. Close Office (including quickstarter), rename folder with JRE.
2. Start Office and try activating any Java-dependant function (for example in
Writer, insert picture, right-click it - Picture - Macro) - you get modal
dialog that you can't disimiss.

Bug bites OOo 3.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.6.x

It's very difficult (but not impossible) to quit.

Issue 115438 is:

It's **impossible** to use the Help menu
Comment 16 Graham Perrin 2010-11-06 12:02:27 UTC
> The Tools menu does **not** offer 'Options'

On Mac OS X, the Help menu should show the true location of 'Options'.

However: the combination of this issue 76385 and issue 115438 make it impossible to use the Help menu;
any click on the word 'Help' causes the 'JRE is Defective' dialogue to reappear, requiring the user to move
the mouse **away** from the Help menu.
Comment 17 Graham Perrin 2010-11-06 12:07:58 UTC
> impossible to use the Help menu

Correction, not quite impossible; a single click on the Help menu causes the 'JRE is Defective' dialogue to
appear nine times. Following the ninth click, the Help menu presents.

>> The Tools menu does **not** offer 'Options'

Issue 115439 is:

> Dialogue 'JRE is Defective' describes a menu option that does not exist in OOo on Mac OS X

I can't believe this bug is so old. I came here to report it and a search took me here.

The problem still happens with OpenOffice 3.3.0 on Windows 7 64-bit and the 32-bit version of the JRE 1.7.0_01

It takes several clicks to finally get that annoying dialog to disappear. o I followed the advice and went to set up a JRE. Unfortunately, adding a JRE fails since no matter what (sub-)folder I point to under C:\Program Files (x86)\Java, I get "the folder does not contain a jre environment". Really? I wonder how come other programs manage to find it.

It takes 15 clicks on "No" for me, for the dialog to go away. It's 5 clicks per script category ("My Macros", "OpenOffice macros", and document macros).

I can confirm 15 clicks on 4.1.3.
But only 10 clicks on 4.2.0-dev from october 21.

So maybe your SVN revision 1765170 fixed part of the problem?
